From October 13th to 14th, 2021, the two-day 8th International Nuclear Power Operation and Maintenance Conference was held in Shanghai. The conference with the theme of "Domestic and foreign nuclear power operation and maintenance experience summary and technological innovation" has received extensive attention from colleagues in the nuclear power industry at home and abroad, focusing on "nuclear power" valves, steam turbines, electrical equipment, in-service inspection, industrial safety, radiation protection, cleaning and decontamination, and operation and maintenance tools.

Mr. Zhang Hongtao, Chief Engineer of the Shanghai Economic and Information Commission, and Mr. Lu Haibin, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Shanghai Nuclear Power Office, delivered speeches at the opening of the conference.

Nuclear energy is the leading source of new and clean energy. In recent years, China's nuclear power installed capacity has continued to increase, and the number of nuclear power units under construction has remained the world's largest for many consecutive years. The overall level of nuclear power operation safety ranks among the international advanced ranks.

In order to ensure the long-term safe and stable operation of nuclear power plants and improve the safety of nuclear power facilities, it is necessary to conduct regular inspections and maintenance of nuclear power equipment, facilities (plants), and even replace certain components. The machinery of nuclear power plants (steam turbines, diesel engines, pumps, valves, pipelines), electrical (generators, transformers, switches, power distribution, motors, electric heads), instrumentation and control equipment, and other important components of nuclear power, need to be regularly inspected, repaired, and cleaned, otherwise it will affect the normal use of nuclear power facilities.

Traditional nuclear power equipment and facilities (plants) decontamination methods are mainly divided into physical decontamination methods, chemical decontamination methods, electrochemical decontamination methods, and electromagnetic vibration decontamination methods.

The shortcomings of traditional cleaning and decontamination methods:

1. High pollution to the surrounding environment and loud noise.

2. When using acids and alkalis, washing must be carried out between the two decontamination stages to lengthen the decontamination process.

3. Damage to the nuclear power equipment itself.

Compared with traditional cleaning methods, laser cleaning has the characteristics of no damage to the substrate, non-contact, and no thermal effect. It is suitable for a variety of materials and is considered to be the most reliable and effective surface cleaning method. Unlike traditional methods, laser cleaning is harmless to the human body and the environment, and is a "green" cleaning technology.
